Severe winter weather has wreaked havoc across Mississippi, leaving a significant number of residents without power. But don't despair! Entergy Mississippi's dedicated crews are working around the clock to restore electricity to over 55,000 customers who have been impacted by this icy onslaught. Entergy Mississippi President and CEO, Haley Fisackerly, shared that the company has mobilized an impressive force of approximately 2,660 workers. These brave individuals have journeyed from 20 different states to lend their expertise and help bring normalcy back to affected communities. At the height of the storm, the situation was even more dire, with a staggering 80,000 Entergy customers plunged into darkness. To make matters more challenging, more than a dozen crucial transmission lines have also been rendered inoperable.
"Every tool possible is being used so we can quickly assess and quickly respond," Fisackerly emphasized, highlighting the urgency and strategic approach being employed. The culprit behind this widespread disruption? A potent combination of ice accumulation and falling tree limbs that have unfortunately brought down power lines. In some of the northern regions of Mississippi, power lines are reportedly coated with over an inch of ice – a truly daunting sight and a testament to the severity of the weather.
The Road to Recovery: When Can You Expect Power Back?
The path to full restoration isn't immediate, and the damage is particularly severe in Grenada, where power might not be fully restored until Sunday night. For those in Entergy's Central District, which encompasses areas like Natchez, Clinton, Madison, and Vicksburg, the hope is for power to be back online by Wednesday night.
But here's where it gets challenging for everyone involved... Fisackerly candidly stated, "The focus is on the restorations, so we ask for everybody’s patience with our workers as they work." He added with genuine empathy, "I can tell you; nobody wants any more than us to get your power back on and make sure you’re comfortable. We understand it’s difficult conditions for you all. We ask for your prayers and your patience and we’re going to work through this together."
