This week marks an exciting occasion in the watch industry: LVMH Watch Week, which serves as the year’s inaugural multi-brand showcase for timepiece enthusiasts. Although I couldn’t attend the main event in Milan this year, I did have the opportunity to visit a smaller presentation of new releases hosted by TAG Heuer, Zenith, and Hublot in New York just yesterday.

All three brands unveiled their latest creations, but Hublot’s standout offering was undoubtedly the new Big Bang Tourbillon, aptly named the “GOAT Edition.”

So, what makes Hublot call this watch the Greatest Of All Time? The answer lies in its inspiration, which traces back to the brand's prominent ambassador: the legendary tennis player Novak Djokovic.

Game, Set, Match

Whether you consider Djokovic to be the greatest male tennis player of all time or not — personally, I would rank him third behind Roger Federer and Rafael Nadal — this Serbian champion has a plethora of statistics supporting his claim, including a remarkable 24 Grand Slam titles and a record-breaking 428 weeks spent as the world number one on the ATP Tour.

Hublot brought Djokovic on board as an ambassador in 2021, and in 2024, they celebrated their collaboration with the launch of the innovative Big Bang Unico Novak Djokovic. This chronograph was particularly noteworthy due to its lightweight case, crafted from recycled materials including Djokovic’s old Head racquets and Lacoste polos, resulting in a timepiece that weighs less than a standard tennis ball.

Now, Hublot has taken its creative partnership with Djokovic a step further with the introduction of the Big Bang Tourbillon Novak Djokovic GOAT Edition.

Like its predecessor, the GOAT Edition features a lightweight composite case made from Djokovic’s discarded racquets and Lacoste clothing, but it also incorporates lighter Gorilla Glass crystals on both the front and rear sides. With a 44mm diameter, this model is larger and utilizes Titaplast, recognized as the strongest polymer in the world, for the midcase. As a result, the watch weighs slightly more than the previous model at 56 grams, yet it remains lighter than a tennis ball — a surprising sensation when held.

Visually, the case is striking, adorned with a translucent pattern reminiscent of camouflage. However, the true marvel lies within the movement. Powering the watch is Hublot’s MHUB6035 automatic caliber, which showcases a tourbillon at 6:00 and a micro-rotor branded with Hublot at 12:00, all visible through the sapphire dial.

What sets this movement apart is its mainplate. Instead of opting for a conventional solid mainplate, Hublot has ingeniously created an intricate 3D lattice that mimics the appearance of tennis racquet strings. This design resembles interwoven cables, each measuring just 0.55mm across and connecting to the inner case edges, yet it is actually a single piece produced through laser engraving. The effect is visually stunning and unique, creating the illusion that the movement components are suspended on strings.

Emphasizing the tennis theme, the mainspring barrel features a cap designed to resemble a tennis ball, complete with an engraving that gives it a fuzzy texture and a vibrant lacquer finish in the characteristic yellow of a tennis ball.

The strap, while heavier than that of the previous Djokovic watch, offers ample comfort. Made from white leather, its design draws inspiration from the grip of a tennis racquet and is fastened with Velcro, featuring a color lining that complements the case.

In terms of color options, the GOAT Edition is available in three variations inspired by the different surfaces of the ATP Tour: blue for hard courts, green for grass, and orange for clay.

Pricing and Availability

The GOAT Edition is limited to just 101 pieces, a nod to Djokovic’s 101 ATP titles. The quantity of each color corresponds to his success on the respective court surfaces, resulting in 72 blue watches for his 72 hard court victories, 21 orange watches for his 21 clay court titles, and only 8 green watches reflecting his 8 grass titles, with seven of those being Wimbledon championships.

The price tag for the Hublot Big Bang Tourbillon Novak Djokovic GOAT Edition stands at $121,000, and during my meeting with the brand, I learned that someone — though not Djokovic himself — had already purchased a complete set of all three editions, presented in a special commemorative case.

It’s safe to speculate that this mystery buyer likely considers Djokovic their G.O.A.T.
